Alive and kickin

Today is the one-month mark of me living in Scotland alone and I thought it would be an appropriate time to say that I am alive and well.

Just as a little flashback...

This is my parents, me, and my friend Deidre, right after we had dinner at Edinburgh Quay which was pretty awesome.

This is a picture of my mom, resembling a polar bear.

And my dad, who resembles Dora the Explorer.

So, what has changed after me living alone for a month?

To begin with, I now have turquoise hair. Which is kinda awesome. Photos to come!

I've started cooking for myself a lot more - food here is expensive, so I go to Tesco for groceries every week. This usually means pasta, potatoes, and salads.

I think I've finally got the hang of dressing for the weather - I know what to wear on days it's gonna be sunny out, and days it's gonna be raining and windy. I have also picked up the habit of checking the weather forecast, since the weather here is so unpredictable.

I've turned 21.

I've become genuinely excited at the prospect of cooking for myself and/or clean, dry, warm laundry. Domestic goddess in the making.

But other than that?

I've tried my best to remain pretty much the same. I said a while ago that we take ourselves with us wherever we go - so while I've learned how to adapt to changes, I'm trying to stay the same person. Still into the golden seven - singing, dance, figure skating, horseriding, philosophy, travel, and the art of living - these being the seven things which I want to become a master of or at least pretty damn good at by the end of my life. Still in love with nature, animals, gemstones, the great outdoors. Still me.

It's not that we change into entirely different people every time we move into a new environment - but that each new environment shapes us in their own unique ways to become a part of the people we are.

In the end, it's still the same, good ol' Cheryl Keit Ang right here.
