Why I want to go to Iceland

I have a confession. I'm the easiest person in the world to make squeal at everything. Which means that if you ever come out with me, you'll hear me say "kawaii" or "omg so cute" or "that's adorable can I take it home with me" about thirty times in the span of an afternoon.

Which brings me to the website that is Iceland Wants To Be Your Friend.

Is that not just the cutest and most adorable thing ever?!

Iceland Wants To Be Your Friend must be in a league of its own as far as tourism campaigns go; I've never quite seen anything like it, and I don't even really care that I'm totally buying into what is so obviously a marketing strategy.

Iceland has been given a personality - an old and ancient one, as you might expect from a very old and ancient volcanic island formed 20 million years ago (that's younger than the last dinosaur!). Incidentally, the name for Iceland in Icelandic is Ísland - sounds familiar to anyone?

Another reason why I want to visit Iceland is because of this video.

Midnight Sun | Iceland from SCIENTIFANTASTIC on Vimeo.

A while ago, I mentioned This Will Destroy You's "The World Is Our ________" in my post on 10 soundtracks for travel. I also mentioned that this was the video that made me fall in love with the song. Listen to it. You won't regret it.

Possibly the only better time lapse video that I've ever seen is this one:

The Mountain from TSO Photography on Vimeo.

Even though The Mountain wasn't shot in Iceland, but still. It's an excuse for great timelapse :p

As if Iceland's ridiculously adorable personality isn't enough, it's also got amazing scenery with a lack of trees that give you landscapes that open out into forever.

And as if all that stunning natural scenery wasn't enough,

I rest my case.

If you haven't put Iceland on your bucket list, you have to do it now.

Bless bless.

Double disclaimer: I am not being paid or sponsored in any way to promote tourism to Iceland. Although should the Icelandic Tourism Board chance on this post and decide to give me a free all-expenses-paid to Iceland, I wouldn't complain either.
